365: Day 85- Death 101

3/26/13: On Tuesday night we finally told S&Z that Uncle Larry died. I had been putting off having this conversation with them because a) I knew I would burst into tears if I tried to do it last week, and b) I didn't know what to say to them. It turns out the hospice website has some good tips for talking to children about death.

Overall the conversation went really well. We said that Larry had died and tried to explain in really simple terms what death is. Zoe said that she felt sad and that she will miss Uncle Larry. Silas had two big questions: 1) from what did Uncle Larry die? ("cancer"), and 2) where did Uncle Larry go? ("we don't know, but he's not here with us anymore"). After we talked a little more about what happened and asked if they had anymore questions, they decided to draw pictures for Uncle Larry. Along the top of Silas' picture he made a lot of scribbles that said "Dear Uncle Larry, I love you soooo much. Love, Silas".

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.

The context for this post is that S&Z started two weeks of daily swimming lessons in the outdoor town pool on Monday. The beginning of this week also happened to start with two of the coldest days of the summer!
