365: Day 150- Beating the Heat

5/31/13:  It was over 90 degrees today so we decided to beat the heat with a new pool and slip-n-slide from BJ's. We didn't have any air conditioners in until late this morning, so we ate both breakfast and lunch on the deck.  When they got up from their nap I had everything set up and ready to go! They entertained themselves for over an hour! Summer has officially begun!

5/30/13: Dancing in 90 degree heat in front of the fan after I set it up before bed.

365: Day 148

5/29/13: Summer vacation has officially started for these guys and Ta-ta takes them to the park every day after nap!

5/28/13: The wonder.

Day 146- Memorial Day

The sun and warm(er) weather finally arrived today! We had plans with Teresa, Tim, Josie & Theo so we decided to meet up at Hale Reservation for a picnic. Upon arrival at North Beach the kids discovered 3 huge piles of sand - the beaches are probably getting spruced up for the start of summer camps in the next few weeks. These sand piles were perfect for kid climbing, and sliding! Everyone had a great time playing by the water too. For lunch I made a Weelicious  tuna pasta salad and Teresa made a fruit salad. Unfortunately the air temps didn't get as warm as we hoped and there were pretty high winds, so everyone was COLD for the picnic!  After lunch we packed up and headed back into the woods. When I asked the kids at bedtime what their favorite part of today was, they replied "sand mountains!!!"

Day 145

5/26/13: S&Z watched "Tigger the Movie" before bed tonight, so I made good use of the popcorn boxes we got as favors from their first movie experience last month. More cold, dreary weather meant errands this morning. Leave it to Daddy to always make things fun! Afterward we had lunch at Chipotle. We often avoid the kid's menu at restaurants, but Chipotle is one place where the selection and cost is perfect. For less than $4 each: Silas got a pork soft taco with cheese and lettuce, brown rice, pinto beans, chips, and an organic milk box; Zoe ordered a cheese quesadilla with brown rice, black beans, chips, and milk. No wonder the place is always packed with families!

Day 144- Books

5/25/13: Yet another rainy day called for soup for supper. Today's photo is of Mr. No Napper helping me make dinner,  Chicken and Orzo Soup . I swear he likes to cook just so he can graze from the food prep. The kids and I braved the rain before lunch and walked down to the library (our mantra in bad weather is, "we're tough enough!"). Zoe has discovered the shelf of spanish books and she now picks a few out for Ta-ta every visit. Here is Silas perusing a book about Diego. I was so excited to check out our first chapter book! Each chapter is 2-4 pages of full text and most pages have a pencil drawing. We've made it through 4 chapters in two nights and everyone seems to be keeping track of the story so far. We will definitely be checking out more chapter books on future visits to the library!

Day 143- Children's Museum

5/24/13: During the month of May admission to the Boston Children's Museum is free for families of first responders. It was a rainy, dreary week so we decided to take advantage of the offer and head to the museum on Friday morning. All Derek had to do was show his BEMS badge and id and all 4 of us got in for free. First we hit the "Arthur" exhibit, Of course we had to stop at the school bus in the Countdown to Kindergarten room. And then we headed to "Peep's World". Watching S&Z explore the water and bubbles this visit was awesome. They are really trying to figure out properties of the various media!    We stopped at the cafeteria for lunch, and then we headed to the kinetics room. Another fun day spent at a local museum, and the best part was that it was FREE!
