365: Day 142- Informational Picketing

5/23/13: Derek and his co-workers at Boston EMS have been working without a contract for over 3 years now. The Boston Public Health Commission recently walked away from the negotiating table, so BEMS organized some "informational picketing" during National EMS Appreciation Week. Derek brought the kids to walk with him on Thursday.

They met at the union hall and S&Z enjoyed a doughnut while they waited for everyone to gather.

They walked in a procession from the Union Hall to the BPHC headquarters,

And they picketed for over an hour. At one point Zoe asked, "why are we walking in circles?!".

Derek had them carry their magna doodles onto which he wrote "My dad deserves respect!".

When everyone was all protested out they went and picked up chicken and waffles for lunch and ate at a playground.

They even got to swing by "the turret", aka Emergency Operations, to see where Daddy works before they headed home.

I'm not sure how much of the real message of the day S&Z understood, but it a great experience for them nonetheless!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Outside

As with most milestones, S&Z have been taking their sweet time when it comes to language development. I've tried to relax about it because one (of the many) things they have taught me over the last year is that they will eventually meet all the milestones and they will do it on their own schedule. Not when their friends do it, not on each other's schedule, and definitely not when the books say it will happen. I have exerted a lot of mental energy worrying about these things, and I've finally decided that it's really not necessary. As expected, their receptive language has skyrocketed over the last several months. I can now ask them to do things that involve getting something from another room, and most of the time (if they are so inclined) they will carry out the request. They are learning the names of, and pointing to, various body parts ('belly' is the current favorite for both of them). They are producing more animal sounds - they have a specific high-...

The Best of Project 366

2012 is coming to a close and I have officially completed Project 366 ! I managed to take and post and keep track of 365 photos out of 366 total days this year. I only missed one day and it was for a pretty good cause . Believe me, these pictures don't take themselves. I shot just under 7000 pictures this year. Once I got an iPhone in March all of the pictures were taken with my phone (~ 5500 pictures!). The camera on the iPhone is really good, I always have it with me, and I like playing around with the filters and other editing tools available in photography apps like Instagram, Camera+, Diptic, and Gridditor. Since I have put so much time, love and energy into Project 366 I thought I should select a few "Best Of's". I had a great time putting this together, and I hope you enjoy these highlights as well!
