366: Day 91

3/31/12: While I was out getting a pedicure today, S&Z decided to "bake" me a birthday cake. They were so cute and excited to show me the cake when I got home. Little did they know that magnet with dinosaur and doll clothes frosting is my favorite!

Sticky Fingers Project of the Week

As I wrote last week , we recently started an art class at the local community center. Today we got to pick up the painting that Silas did last week. It's so awesome that I hung it on my door at work. Both kids completed a painting today, so I'll have more to add to my growing art collection next week :-) The art project today was a cute and simple idea. Miss Donna cut out leaves of different shapes. The kids colored the leaves with markers, and then we sprayed them with water so that they got a watercolor effect.  These went up on the fridge with the apple project from last week. LOVE IT!!!!!

Sticky Fingers!

I recently enrolled the kids in two classes for 1.5-2.5 year olds at the West Roxbury Community Center. Each 7-session class is only $30 per kid, so I figured we can't go wrong! We had our first "Sticky Fingers" art class this morning. I was able to re-arrange my schedule this week so that we could attend the first class as a family. It was so much fun that I'm hoping to use some vacation time to be able to attend the upcoming classes as well! Our teacher is Miss Donna and she has been running the class for 4 years. The idea is that the class is a parent-led opportunity for kids to get their hands dirty with different art media. The room is set up with multiple stations, and S&Z had fun this morning going from station to station to explore. First we did markers on a white board, There is a sand table, But the most fun was had with painting on easels! The class enrollment is capped at 10 kids and the room is plenty big. There are also 4 Lit...

The RCC

The Roslindale Community Center is just a 10 minute walk from our house. We decided to get a family membership this spring, which only costs $50 for the whole year! They have open toddler gym 4 days/week in the mornings, so when the weather is crappy Derek has been taking S&Z to the RCC to run around instead of to the park. The playspace is great, it's basically a big gymnasium! Some days there are only a few other kids and other days the place is swamped. It all depends on the weather. They have lots of gear for the kids to play with, like push cars, Balls, hockey sticks, and lacrosse equipment, And pedal toys like this cruiser :) It's great to have a place like this in our neighborhood for the kids to be able to play when the weather doesn't cooperate (which happens more than we would like it to - we do live in New England, after all!).
