365: Day 146- Memorial Day 2014

5/26/14: We spent another Memorial Day at Hale Reservation today - it was our 3rd in a row! It was sprinkling when we arrived so we ate our picnic lunch under a shelter. After lunch we hiked to beautiful Storrow Pond, where beavers have made a large dam in the last few weeks. We watched frogs and fish and caterpillars.  Just another great day spent at Hale!

365: Day 145

5/25/14: Playing with our landlord's boys and enjoying a beautiful afternoon in a newly mowed backyard. We have eaten like kings this weekend, grilling out every night. On Saturday we did Asian Barbecue Chicken  (aka crack chicken), mashed potatoes, and steamed caulflower and broccoli. On Sunday we grilled Korean Kimchi Burgers and served them on top of romaine, with an Orzo Salad . The salad did double duty in our Memorial Day picnic at Hale Reservation today. Tonight we did flat iron steak fajitas with sauteed tri-color peppers and onion, and a side of braised kale. It was definitely a good eating weekend around here!!!

365: Day 144- Planting Flowers

5/24/14: Derek was off work this weekend so we seized the opportunity to get some flowers purchased and planted. It was a beautiful afternoon and Home Depot was a mad house! We got straight to work when we got home. We planted 4 full sun containers for the front step, including petunias, alyssum, and salvia. And 4 hanging baskets for the shady back deck. These included white and red begonias, and vinca vine. The kids were VERY good helpers, especially when it came to watering!

365: Day 143

5/23/14: On Friday morning we had a craft table disaster to tackle. I enlisted the kids' help and before we knew it there was a clear space on which to "create".  We went to the Y mid-morning. When I went to the Child Watch room to pick them up I found Silas "reading" a book to two other little boys :) This was the first Friday of S&Z not being in school, so we commemorated with a Mommy lunch ! It's never too young to start teaching clean eating!

365: Day 142

5/22/14: Spidey-girl

365: Day 141

5/21/14: Pointing out to me where they "work" (which is apparently somewhere in Quebec).

365: Day 140- Field Day

5/20/14: The close of the school year was celebrated with Field Day last Tuesday. The two 3-year-old classes and S&Z's 4-year-old class enjoyed the festivities together. First there was a magician, Magician photo bomb! and then some sun & fun outside! Silas squeezed into the balloon animal line in between the two prettiest girls in his class :) Zoe & her and Silas' best friend, Lindsay Silas in a hula hoop contest! It was very sad to say goodbye to the wonderful teachers that S&Z have had for the last two years. Fingers crossed that Miss Murphy will be half as great as Miss Ellen ;)

365: Day 139- Preschool Graduation

5/19/14: Zoe & Silas graduated from Small Wonders preschool on Monday. We even got Zoe to wear a dress for the occasion! There was a ceremony at school, and the class sang several adorable songs (video coming soon). And then they got their diplomas! What a big milestone for S&Z! Feeling happy (and nostalgic!) as they get ready to start K1 in the fall...

365: Day 138- Belated Mother's Day

5/18/14: Derek was off work today so we celebrated a late Mother's Day. The weather forecast looked good so we headed to World's End in Hingham for a picnic and a hike. It was our first picnic of the year and all of us were soooooooooo happy to be eating outside! Although accessible by car, World's End is technically one of the Boston Harbor Islands . It is a really beautiful place to hike and explore! We took a break at the top of a scenic hill, and Derek and I ended up taking pictures of each other taking pictures! We walked down to an area called the Sand Bar, where we skipped rocks for a long time. After a 2.5 mile long hike everyone was pretty tired walking back to the car. The hungry hikers went out to a new Lebanese restaurant for dinner. We enjoyed the most amazing spread of food! Hummus, fattoush salad, warak enab (stuffed grape leaves), lentil soup, pita bread, sambossik (meat filled dumplings), chicken and lam
