List of Toddler Food Ideas

I've written a bit about food and eating on this blog, and I recently commented on where we're at with the dreaded toddler eating phase. A few friends have asked me for the food idea list that I alluded to, so I'm posting it here for future posterity. This list is a combination of ideas generated from several twin moms.

Pizza toast - a piece of toast that goes back in the toaster oven with marinara and shredded cheese. Can also put thawed frozen spinach finely chopped down as the first layer before the marinara.
English muffin or toast topped with hummus
Chickpeas sauteed with zucchini and summer squash
Sometimes I put a couple of slices of deli ham or turkey on the grilled cheese
Mac & cheese with cooked veggies
Scrambled eggs or vegetable frittata
Open-faced tuna melt (I make tuna salad with shredded carrots & zucchini to get more veg in there)
Pasta with marinara and cooked veggies
Turkey burgers with shredded veg - I make a bunch of small ones and freeze them
Tofu marinated in Trader Joe's soyaki and cooked in a little sesame oil
Salmon or tuna cakes (also with shredded veg mixed in)
Black beans or pinto beans (sometimes with cooked with carrots) mixed with brown minute rice

Frittatas or Quiches  Easy to fill them with different veggies.
Pasta with sauce
Dips = spinach & artichoke (which you make ahead of time and freeze),
cottage cheese & pineapple
Quesadillas, burritos, paninis, soft tacos (messy but yum)
chicken skewers (with the skewer)
shepherds pie (also can make in advance and freeze)
Trader Joes: masala burger (made of potatoes and veggies)
tuna, chicken, egg salad sandwiches, double decker (egg salad and avocado)
veggie pancakes (savory pancakes)
Sushi - cucumber, avocado
Polenta fingers - also can put different veggies in there.

peanut butter, jelly & cream cheese roll-ups (http://tatertottwins.blogspot.com/2011/01/yummy-roll-ups-for-kids.html)
grilled ham & cheese
turkey & cheese sandwich
wrap with peanut butter & banana (you could use almond or apple butter)
hummus & cucumber wrap
pasta with butter & parmasan cheese
pasta with sauce
cheese tortellini
egg & cheese sandwich
english muffin pizza
drained & rinsed soup
hot dogs (beef & turkey
chicken sausages
chicken & cheese quesadillas
cheeses & crackers
hummus & crackers
annies mac & cheese (with/without hotdogs)
any deli meat cut up with cheese
YoBaby Meals yogurt (the one with the veggies in it) and fresh fruit along with one of 3 choices: pb&j, hummus sandwich, or cream cheese on toasted english muffin.
Barilla Plus pasta (used to use whole wheat pasta, but I like that Plus is made with lentils, chick peas, etc.) with half regular pasta sauce and half babyfood (hidden veggies).
Stop&Shop brand fresh small ravioli w/ same sauce as above.
Fish sticks.
HappyBites frozen toddler foods (veggie bites, salmon sticks).
Tofu - cold, unseasoned, simply cut into cubes right out of the fridge.  They love it!
Pizza (I make it the easy way with a Boboli whole wheat pizza crust).
Tuna mac, french toast, omelettes, ground beef or turkey in pasta sauce... I think that's it!
I also "hide" veggies in their yogurt (they love chobani kids yogurt) w/ babyfood purees....they don't even know it's there.

More great ideas can be found on this twin mom cooking blog.

Happy Eating!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
