Settling In

We headed up to Wells, Maine this afternoon to enjoy a few days away from the hustle and bustle (and shots being fired a few houses away, if you live in Roslindale like us). It was < 2 hour drive, which was perfect for us since Silas and Zoe are anti-napping in the car these days. We are staying at an all-suite resort hotel called Village by the Sea that was recommended to us by my friend, Andee. Wendy's family vacationed in the Wells/Ogunquit area when she was a kid so we also got her stamp of approval (as well as lots of ideas for things to do while we're here!).

We arrived just in time for 3pm check-in this afternoon. Our condo is really big, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an enclosed patio. I called back in January in order to figure out the best suite for us, and the one we got seems perfect. It's on the first floor so it's easy to get the kids in and out, the building is adjacent to the indoor pool and game room.

The first thing that Silas discovered was the old-school telephone in the living room. Before I knew it he was dialing away, so I disconnected it and gave it to him as a toy before the Wells P.D. showed up.

I thankfully found another phone in the master bedroom for Zoe, and this helped us avoid a brawl.

Derek unloaded the car while I got us unpacked and organized. As usual, S&Z were super helpful in putting stuff away :)

We shared an awesome family supper (which NEVER happens for us outside of vacation),

And then we hit the pool! Separate post and pix to follow...

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
