Monkey See, Monkey Do

Our little goof balls are the definition of "monkey see, monkey do". Typically, Silas will start doing something and then Zoe will copy him, but it definitely goes both ways. It started at some point this summer, and it has become a hilarious and annoying dynamic between the two of them. And yes, these are the same tupperware bowls that have been providing entertainment since August :)

They recently figured out they can use the toy bins for this same effect.

They just make the wispy scandinavian hair more static-y!

Sometimes the mimicry is funny, like in this video.

And sometimes it's silly. Silas likes to chew on a soft cloth when he's tired.

Of course Zoe started doing it too. She will shove any stupid thing in her mouth and walk around with it, but she doesn't get the pleasure and comfort out of doing it that Silas does. Here she is with a bib that she pulled out of the laundry basket.

And sometimes I want to strangle them. One starts getting into something they shouldn't and the other automatically follows. The stove is the perfect example. Ironically, they both have cloths in their mouths in this picture.

It will be entertaining (and patience invoking) to see how this behavioristic vibe develops as they get older!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
