Pigtails

Unfortunately, Zoe inherited the Scandinavian straight hair from my mom's side of the family. I would love to keep her stylin' with a pixie cut, but the maintenance it would require at this stage of the game is not really manageable. Derek has actually started cutting Silas' hair, but we're not sure how that would work out with a girl.

So we ended up deciding a few months ago to let Zoe's hair grow out. As her bangs are getting longer, we're struggling with how to best keep them out of her face. And for those of you who know and love Zoe, you might be able to guess that she's not the most cooperative toddler with having her "hair done".

We've tried barrettes,

Cecilia did a special Mother's Day hairdo when she visited
And headbands,

We've had the best luck with the headbands. Eventually, though, she pulls things out of her hair within a little while and she ends up looking like this.

Today we decided to try pigtails.

You can only guess how that went...

She stayed mad for most of the morning. I'm beginning to think that growing her hair out was a bad idea! Pixie cut coming soon??!!

And it's too bad, because the pigtails were SO DARN CUTE!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
