Father's Day

This was the first year that the kids and I made a card for Daddy's Day - last year they were still too little for art projects :). A few weeks ago Aditi had everyone coloring on construction paper with sidewalk chalk at EI playgroup, so I decided that could be the background for a card with handprints/finger painting. Gramma & Grampa kept the kids busy on Saturday night with crayons while I got the paints ready.

Not exactly the perfect handprints I envisioned, but it turned out pretty darn cute.

Derek's family has a tradition of doing New England Clam Boils for holidays like Father's Day and Labor Day. His parents make the same type of clam boil that Joanne's dad used to make. I will post the recipe at some point so that S&Z have it in their blog book, but it looks something similar to this. Since my Dad & Mary were visiting this weekend, Derek & I thought it would be fun to host a clam boil at our house for a Father's Day get-together.

Since everyone was together I used it as an opportunity to take lots of cute pictures!

Many thanks to Joanne & Denny for putting together an awesome clam boil! We had such a wonderful day! It was amazing to be able to celebrate with Derek, my Dad, Denny, Doug, and Derek's grandpa Bob. I also skype'd with Dave before the kids went to bed, so I was able to see all the dad's and wish them a Happy Father's Day "in person"!

Still more to come from Dad & Mary's visit - in the meantime, here's an adorable good night photo from Father's Day...

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
