Filming at the Lab

Another large media outlet is doing a story about a study we have been doing in Romania since the late 1990s. They wanted to film kids of similar ages to the ones we have tested in Bucharest, so Derek and I brought S&Z into the lab this morning.

It was a toss-up about who would be filmed to fit the 3-year-old bill for the story. I originally thought Silas would be more agreeable, but after a week of being sick he informed me a few nights ago that he didn't want to wear the silly science hat because it makes his hair too messy. Zoe stepped right up this morning and did AWESOME. Unfortunately we were so focused on the filming that we didn't get any new photos of her wearing the hat. After Zoe finished up of course Silas decided that he also wanted to wear the hat.

No wonder S&Z love coming to Mommy's work. They get to hang out with lovely ladies like Auntie Nessa and Geneva,

And they get special treats for being great cooperators.

I was so proud of how great they did!

When we were leaving I asked the kids if they want to be scientists or doctors when they grow up.
 They both replied "doctors".
I asked if they wanted to be a Ph.D. doctor or a medical doctor.
Zoe said, "I just want to be a regular doctor"...

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
