Zoe's VIP Week

S&Z's preschool does lots of cute and clever things throughout the year, but the biggest one is probably VIP Week. At the beginning of the school year each child is assigned a week to be the "VIP". This means all sorts of fun things like the VIP gets to hold the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance, they can bring in a poster showcasing whatever they want, and a family member of their choosing can come to school on Thursday and read the story at circle time. It also means that the VIP family is responsible for providing snack and juice all week, and is also asked to donate whatever supplies the classroom is in need of (this week we were asked to bring hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes).

For days leading up to Zoe's big week she has been talking about being the VIP. On Monday morning at breakfast she announced "I'M the VIP this week, NOT SILAS" (to which I quickly remind her that Silas, and not her, will be the VIP the week after Thanksgiving).

We went and picked out poster boards for both of their posters last weekend. I printed out fun block letters for their names and they had fun coloring them on Sunday. After finding out who they wanted represented on the boards I printed out all of the pictures one night after they went to bed. They were so excited to look at the pictures on Monday!

On Monday night after work we attached the pictures and added the final touches to Zoe's board.

On Tuesday I did school dropoff with Derek. It was pouring rain so the poster got covered with a garbage bag so that it got transported unscathed.

Zoe was so excited to have it hung up!

It's been really fun this week to spend a little time in the kids' classroom. It has such a good vibe and S&Z are really happy there. I finally got a full picture of the thankful turkey where their priceless feathers are hung.

I got to see how they hang up their pictures when they arrive at school each day, and the handprints of all the kids hanging on the wall.

On Thursday I took the morning off so that I could be the guest of honor and read the story of Zoe's choice at circle time. Upon arrival at school she got her VIP crown.

Derek and I got to watch the welcome songs before storytime. It was so fun to see how much both Zoe and Silas have learned, and how much they participate!

Next Zoe got to hold the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. I wish I had gotten better pictures of this part - she was SO EXCITED!

And finally it was time to read "I'm So Strong", which was the book Zoe chose for storytime. The kids were so cute - they started off in their circle time spots,

but they got closer and closer and closer as the story progressed.

Later when we picked up the kids up from school we went out for VIP lunch. We went to Yucatan Tacos, which is where we went last month on S&Z's birthday.

It was such a fun week. I am so glad that Zoe had the opportunity to feel so very special at school!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
