366: Day 327 (Thanksgiving)

11/22/12: I have learned a lot about gratitude from my mom over the years. I am so grateful for having learned this type of awareness from her - the ability to pay attention and to notice what is good. I carry this abundance of gratitude with me today, as I do every day. In honor of Thanksgiving, I am putting a few of these thoughts in writing.

Needless to say, these two little turkeys are at the top of my gratitude list.

Derek worked this afternoon/evening and he arrived 1.5 hours early so that he could relieve someone on the day shift. He wanted a co-worker to be able to leave early so that they could spend more time with their family, knowing that we have a 3-day weekend together that starts tomorrow. I am grateful to have such a thoughtful and loving husband

I am grateful that we have an abundance of food and space and love to share with Derek's family for a Thanksgiving celebration on Saturday. I am grateful and inspired by the inner strength (and medical care!) that both Joanne and Uncle Larry have in order to keep fighting their cancers.

I am so very grateful that Derek finally has a normal sleeping schedule - one that will significantly improve our family time this holiday season.

I am grateful that my children can run and laugh. I am grateful that they are so funny and so happy; so smart and so curious.

I am grateful that I have so many good friends. Friends like Wendy, whose husband also worked tonight, so we munched on appetizers and enjoyed each other's company while all the kids played.

If the kids could explain it, I suspect they would be grateful for decorating cookies,

And for the amazing Christmas decorations they saw before we headed home...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
