The VIP Visits the Aquarium

The VIP weeks at school have been such a great way to give some individual attention to S&Z. It can be hard to have your own spotlight as a twin, so I have loved seeing each of them shine on their own (although the other kid is never far away!). I had reserved some museum passes from the library last month and it just so happened that the Science Museum passes coincided with the Friday of Zoe's VIP week and the Aquarium passes were reserved for the Friday of Silas' VIP week. All of us have been excited to visit Aquarium and today was finally the day!

It was COLD along the Harbor this morning, but the kids were so excited to see the water!

We were welcomed at the entrance of the Aquarium by the sea lions. The kids were so funny, I had to shoot a little video.

We headed straight to the touch tanks once we got inside.

We spent some time with the jellyfish, which is one of my favorite exhibits.

And we got up close to one of the turtles.

The Aquarium is currently undergoing major construction so unfortunately the penguins are on "vacation" until July 2013. Instead we checked out the sea turtles and large sea rays who have taken up residence in the penguin area.

And then we visited the only penguins who are sticking around during the construction.

We spent the rest of our time checking out the multitude of tank exhibits. As you will notice, Zoe stayed closer to me and Silas was off with Derek so I have more pictures of Zoe...

The Aquarium was started to get packed with kids on field trips, so we headed across the street to Legal Seafood for Silas' VIP lunch.

What an awesome day. I think Zoe & Silas would agree...

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
