Sibling Love

Zoe was being Zoe yesterday at lunchtime. This can mean a number of things, but yesterday it meant a temper tantrum when it was time to go in her booster seat to eat lunch. When she initially freaked out Derek stopped trying to put her in her seat and gave her a few minutes in his lap before trying again (let me just say we've been down this road before, and sometimes taking a break will stop the madness). The tantrum that ensued included but was not limited to back arching and freaking out as we strapped her in the seat for a second time; refusing to sit at the table after we got her in (she kept pushing herself away), screaming "up" over and over and over, and two 2-minute timeouts in hopes of getting her to calm down (which she was generally unable or unwilling to do).  After doing battle for another 15 minutes with her freaking out in her seat, I gave in and took her out.

While this whole s**t show was going on, Silas sat there watching everything and quietly ate his lunch. Once Zoe was in my lap Silas said, "Zoe sad". We agreed with him that yes, Zoe was sad. By this point Silas was eating his yogurt and he looked at her and asked, "bite?". She leaned over and he fed her a spoonful of yogurt. Even though he didn't have much yogurt left, he proceeded to feed the rest of it to her.

What a good brother.

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
