A Birthday Party for Two at the Zoo

Theo and Elliot, the sons of my friend Jill, recently turned 3 years and 1 year respectively. Jill and her husband planned an amazing birthday party for them and invited their friends and family to the Franklin Park Zoo!

I met Jill through my friend Andee, so our family and Andee's family met up before the party. Maya, 3.8 years, is always really good with Zoe and Silas,

And new baby Jonah is cute as can be!

We checked out the zebras,

And the ostrich!

On our way to the party.

The tent was next to the playground. The kids had fun just taking it all in,

Inside the tent there was a table for the kids set up with stickers, paper, crayons, and markers.

Birthday boy Elliot

After eating pizza it was time for cake!

Jill, Elliot and Theo getting ready to blow out candles

Before we knew it S&Z got back in the wagon and were saying, "animals, animals"! It was time to say goodbye to our friends and go see the rest of the zoo!

There were flamingos,

Why do they smell so bad????

Lots of things that fly, like this Andean Condor. Silas called him a monkey and the condor looked less than pleased :-)

And of course some gorilla MADNESS.

We all enjoyed a wonderful morning at the zoo. Happy birthday Theo & Elliot!!!! Thanks for inviting us to your awesome birthday party!!!!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
