Mommy Friends

My girlfriends are as important to me as my family. Unfortunately, like my family, many of my best friends live far away. I have worked really hard over the last 2 years to create a community of new friends that have been such an amazing source of laughter, support, advice and perspective as I have navigated the path of mommyhood.

-Andee & her daughter Maya came in for a few studies when Maya was a baby, and Andee & I formed a friendship at the beginning of my pregnancy. We both are busy with careers and at times doing lots of single parenting, but we always find time to get together every month.
-Iris & my friend Kristin went to Smith together, and Iris and I cultivated a friendship after Kristin moved to Wisconsin. The first time Iris came over to see us, Silas & Zoe were ~ 2 months old and Iris had just found out that she was pregnant. She is now mommy to an adorable baby boy, Peter, who turns 1 at the end of June. In the fall, Iris and I started meeting up for dinner and margaritas once a month. These nights out make me feel human again!
-If you're a blog follower you've heard me talk a lot about Wendy and her twin daughters, Sydney & Ivy. We met on the MA twin moms site and started getting together for monthly playdates when the babies were 6 months old. I can't tell you how much I have valued having a fellow twin mom to celebrate and commiserate with over the last year.
-Auntie Vanessa & Oliver live nearby but we haven't seen them nearly enough over the winter. We are excited to start having more regular playdates now that summer is upon us and Vanessa will be on maternity leave with baby #2 starting in June!
-In December, I met Miriam and her son, Garrison, in a neighborhood shop. They live nearby so we have lots of fun with impromptu playdates. Miriam is expecting a baby in November so we'll be excited to have another new friend!
-Auntie Timery moved back to Ipswich in the fall. Her adorable baby boy, Jason, turns 1 this week and we are so fortunate to see them once a month.

What prompted me to write this blog post is a new friend, Teresa, and her twins, Josephine and Theodore who turned 1 in April. I met Teresa and her husband, Tim, in Target back in the fall. They were carrying Josie & Theo in baby carriers and I spotted them down the aisle. Always a sucker to chat with other twin parents, I struck up a conversation with them and we ended up exchanging e-mail addresses. Several months and one long winter later, we finally got together for our first playdate yesterday! They live in Walpole, which is ~ 25 minutes from here. We had a late afternoon playdate and shared a lovely dinner together. It's always an adventure feeding 2 sets of twins at the same time so I wanted to share these pictures!

I am so thankful to have such a wonderful community of mommy friends as a part of my life. I wouldn't survive this stage of life without them!!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Parks

We decided to get Zoe's haircut on Saturday morning at a place geared towards kids called Snip-Its . Neither Derek nor I anticipated what a meltdown Zoe was going to have. The haircut is half-assed at best and Derek will have to fix it when she's more calm. We were so traumatized that we headed to the park to get the day going on a better foot! We went back to Larz Anderson, the park where the  Psychiatry picnic was held on Thursday . It is really close to our house and is lovely and shaded. I think it's one of my new favorite spots! The kids like it too :) S&Z love playing with wood chips, so there was a lot of that! Snacks were enjoyed on the bench and I tried to get a few pictures of the haircut... Excuse me, I'm chewing pretzels :) This morning we met up with Wendy, Dave, Sydney & Ivy at the Newton Center Playground. It was HOT HOT HOT, and there wasn't too much shade. The kids have inherited my low tolerance for heat, so they spe

York's Wild Kingdom

Friday was our last day of vacation and check-out time at Village by the Sea was 10am. We wanted to do one last fun thing before coming back to Boston, so we headed to York's Wild Kingdom in York, Maine. The zoo had just opened when we got there, and apparently lots of other families had the same idea as us! This zoo is definitely aimed for little kids, and Silas and Zoe (and Derek!) had a blast! Our first stop was the butterfly sanctuary, and this was definitely my favorite part of the day... We had the kids both in and out of the stroller throughout our visit. The zoo was packed with people, so it was a little nuts having them roam free and try to manage an empty double stroller too. But they were happier to get in and out of the stroller at their leisure with all the walking. There were several highlights for the kids - all of which involved feeding the animals from your hand. One was the duck pond, The deer were pretty awesome, As was the petting zoo
