We have gotten a s***load of snow this season. We had our first snowfall right before Christmas and got about 5". Our first big storm dumped 18" right after Christmas, and we have pretty much had a snowstorm or blizzard every week since. Even for New England, the amount of snow we have gotten is unusual. Everyone is cranky and totally over it.
The snow makes it pretty much impossible to get Silas & Zoe outside in the stroller or wagon. This means they can go for 4-5 days at a time without getting outside. Talk about cabin fever! Silas has started standing at the Superyard that blocks off the front door, pointing at the stroller, and saying "da, da, da"!. The kid wants out. This picture was taken on January 28th. Since then, we have gotten another 10".
The last few weeks when Friday morning rolls around, my first day off, I have tried to mobilize us all to get out of the house together. One morning we brought them grocery shopping at Trader Joe's, last Friday we went to BJ's and then got them fitted for a much-needed pair of shoes at Stride Rite. Today we decided to do something more fun than shopping, and check out an indoor playspace at a nearby mall.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a play area at a mall. This mall is very upscale, though, and as we pulled into the parking garage at 10am, all we saw were mom's getting kids and strollers out of the car. The playspace is on the 4th floor, and it appeared before us like a beautiful mecca of kid fun! The space is really clean, because everyone's shoes come off by the door, strollers are parked in the hallway, and no snacks or drinks are allowed in the play area. The floor is all padded and there is so much fun stuff interspersed throughout the room to climb in! S&Z loved the boat to start. There were already a lot of kids playing when we arrived, and they were a little overwhelmed.
Once they warmed up, they were off to explore.
Silas in particular was in his element. He loves other little kids, he loves new stuff, and he loves being around other mommy's. He went up to a mom holding a new baby and tried to love up on her, which is what he does to all of my friends. Some women probably find it a little off-putting. Of course I think it's totally endearing :)
He is generally happy just to be an exuberant kid!
Zoe had a lot of fun practicing her new love of climbing! Her favorite part was the slide,
They were stuck to each other like glue in this car, taking in all the kid chaos around them.
After playing for about an hour, we went and had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. I felt a million times better after our fun morning out, and they probably did too. The best part is that this mall is only a 15 minute drive from our house. It will definitely be useful during rainy times this summer as well!

So, I'd heard about that playspace and just assumed they meant the bottom floor which is nothing to write home about...never knew there even WAS a fourth floor! Of course, I've banned myself from that mall because the parking garage bit my car.
