Big Kids

Derek and I had an amazing belated birthday brunch at Upstairs on the Square in Cambridge today. We had arranged for Julia to come for 4 hours, so we ended up with extra time to run errands after brunch. I've had a Toys 'r Us list building in my head so we decided to cross that off the list.

We have been looking around for a little table and chairs, and didn't find what we were looking for at Ikea on Friday. We ended up finding a great, inexpensive Little Tikes plastic set today, however. We also got them their first set of crayons, and they had a great time coloring like big kids at their new table. Derek's friends, Dave & Kirstyn, gave us some fun, colored printer paper so they were all set!

Zoe at times seemed more interested in climbing than coloring,

But Silas was really into it! The activity definitely held their interest longer than I expected!

We also got them a magnetic farm toy like one that we had played with at The Brennan's house this summer.

And a stroller for the baby that The Brennan's gave S&Z for their birthday.

Of course, the most fun was had with the box that the table and chairs came in :)

It's not often (i.e., never) that we buy them toys so I guess we went all out today! But wait, wasn't I just talking about giving all the toys away??? Doh...

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
