365: Day 233

8/22/13: Day 5 of our quarantine. Thank goodness we have a backyard they can play in!

Silas' face continues to slowly heal, but we're concerned that there hasn't been much improvement with the lymphangitis, even after 48+ hours on 2 different kinds of antibiotics. The spot on my neck is also untouched, and even a little bigger than yesterday. We're going to see Dr. R. again tomorrow before the weekend.

Zoe fluctuates between constant attention-seeking and complete self-sufficiency. Silas has been very cranky when he wakes up in the morning, and today Zoe knew I had my hands full. Unbeknownst to me she went in their room shortly after I got them up and she picked out her clothes for the day. A few minutes later she appeared in the kitchen fully dressed in the above outfit with a VERY big smile on her face. I'm so glad that Julia got a picture of her wearing this outfit!

Meanwhile, we're disinfecting like mad. I basically walk around with Clorox wipes in one hand and a canister of Lysol in the other. My house has never been so clean and yet felt so dirty.

To distract myself tonight I'm working up an improv vegetarian dinner inspired by this Eating Well recipe. I cooked 2 c. quinoa with chopped onions, cumin and curry; I threw in 1 c. peas with just a few minutes left on the cook time. To that I'm going to add some roasted summer squash, cauliflower, and chick peas. Hopefully it will taste as delicious as it sounds!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
