365: Day 36


2/5/13: Suckers are very rewarding for great work on their responsibility charts this week!


Silas drew this picture of 'Mommy' (on left) and 'Daddy' (on right) at school today. The picture of me looks very similar to the 'Mommy is mad' picture he drew awhile back - I just have less blue swirls encompassing my entire head.


Speaking of encompassing my head, the infinity scarf that I just finished knitting for myself works great to keep my head warm too!

Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
