No!

As most of you know, Zoe is pretty bossy and usually manages to get her way even though she's smaller in size than Silas. She comes along and rips the toy she wants out of her brother's hands and watches while he is reduced to tears. Silas played around a bit with the "squashing" technique a few months ago, but it didn't stick.

Silas is a sweet, sweet little boy who just started shaking his head 'no' recently to indicate when he doesn't want something. At the end of last week he started saying 'no' more consistently. This is contrary to Miss Z who started shaking her head 'no' last summer.

As of Friday, Silas finally started standing his ground to Miss Bossy Pants. When Zoe comes along and tries to take a toy from him, instead of crying he now yells "No! No! No!!!!" over and over, very loudly, directly in her face. He will not give up the toy. Zoe is completely taken aback and doesn't know how to deal with this new tough response. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Derek and I find the new Silas absolutely hilarious, and very appropriate considering the alternatives (biting, hitting, sitting on). I've tried to get it on video and so far just got the tail end where he's winding down. It's about 1/10 of the energy, but I want to post anyway :)

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
