365: Day 91- My Birthday!

4/1/14: I had a really, really fantastic birthday on Tuesday. This year I decided to bring back the "birthday month", so I've already had a couple of birthday dinners with friends. There is nothing like your actual BIRTHDAY, though!

Zoe & Silas were very sweet both the night before and the morning of my birthday. On Monday night Silas told Julia that they needed to buy me a present. She asked what he thought I might like and he replied, "maybe some lotion!".

They also managed to squash Daddy as I was on my way out the door-

At work my co-workers surprised me with delicious birthday cupcakes at lunchtime.

We had a journal club meeting in the afternoon and I arrived to find the room decorated,

complete with party hats and a tiara! Yup, I actually led a paper discussion about infant ERPs wearing a tiara :)

Derek picked me up at 3:00 so we could hang out for a few hours to celebrate. I snapped a picture of his face when he saw me walk out of the building wearing a tiara.

We went to Matt Murphy's for a drink and poutine, where he surprised me with a gorgeous pair of earrings from the Diamond Guild!

This picture doesn't do them justice!

And then we went out for an early sushi dinner.

When we got home Julia and the kids surprised me with a cake and a happy birthday song.

They checked out the party hats I brought home from work and we got a family photo.

And lest we forget what birthdays are all about... Here is my birth photo, weighing in at a whopping 10 lbs, 5 oz. I came 10 days late and my mom was in labor for 36 hours!

HAPPY 39th BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...
