Cape Cod Vacation, Day 1

A few months ago I was trying to figure out where we should go on vacation this summer. Same as last year, we wanted to go somewhere in New England for 3-4 days. It can be hard to find places to rent mid-week, so I was happy when Vanessa put us in touch with a friend of hers to see about renting his house on the Cape. The dates and price worked out so we were all set to vacation in Yarmouth, MA from Monday until Thursday this week.

Traveling with kids, even just for a few days, is a ton of work so we had a lot to get ready on Sunday night and Monday morning before we left. S&Z decided the babies needed to eat before we packed up the booster seats.

We were on the road by 10:30 on Monday morning, so we got to the house just in time for lunch. It was raining when we arrived, so we quickly unloaded the car and got everyone settled. The house is absolutely gorgeous, with a great kitchen and dining room. We brought all of our food and had meals planned for the week.

Zoe, however, was very unhappy at our first meal :(

Since it was raining we put the kids down for their afternoon nap like usual. They needed to nap in the same room due to the layouts of the bedrooms, and we weren't sure how they were going to do since they've been napping separately for quite some time now. We had to go in to quiet them down 3-4 times, but they eventually fell asleep. I was very happy to curl up with a good book and listen to the rain for awhile.

When we woke the kids up at 4pm the rain had subsided, so we decided to go out exploring. I had read about an interesting beach (Gray's Beach) and boardwalk (Bass Hole) where you can see fish and osprey nests, so we headed out on a wet adventure.

It was high tide and absolutely beautiful on this gray and windy day.

We were out on the boardwalk for a long time, taking pictures and taking in the view.

Silas is smiling and saying "Cape Cod" in these pictures :)

Okay, time to eat!

We went to a restaurant called Captain Parker's Pub that is famous for clam chowder. It was PACKED, even on a Monday night! I can't imagine the madness on a weekend!

Derek got a fisherman's platter and I ate fresh Chatham haddock. It was our splurge meal of the week and we got a delicious taste of fresh seafood.

I took over 350 pictures in 4 days, so it's going to take me awhile to get all of the vacation posts up. Until then, I'll be doing oodles and oodles of laundry!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Parks

We decided to get Zoe's haircut on Saturday morning at a place geared towards kids called Snip-Its . Neither Derek nor I anticipated what a meltdown Zoe was going to have. The haircut is half-assed at best and Derek will have to fix it when she's more calm. We were so traumatized that we headed to the park to get the day going on a better foot! We went back to Larz Anderson, the park where the  Psychiatry picnic was held on Thursday . It is really close to our house and is lovely and shaded. I think it's one of my new favorite spots! The kids like it too :) S&Z love playing with wood chips, so there was a lot of that! Snacks were enjoyed on the bench and I tried to get a few pictures of the haircut... Excuse me, I'm chewing pretzels :) This morning we met up with Wendy, Dave, Sydney & Ivy at the Newton Center Playground. It was HOT HOT HOT, and there wasn't too much shade. The kids have inherited my low tolerance for heat, so they spe

York's Wild Kingdom

Friday was our last day of vacation and check-out time at Village by the Sea was 10am. We wanted to do one last fun thing before coming back to Boston, so we headed to York's Wild Kingdom in York, Maine. The zoo had just opened when we got there, and apparently lots of other families had the same idea as us! This zoo is definitely aimed for little kids, and Silas and Zoe (and Derek!) had a blast! Our first stop was the butterfly sanctuary, and this was definitely my favorite part of the day... We had the kids both in and out of the stroller throughout our visit. The zoo was packed with people, so it was a little nuts having them roam free and try to manage an empty double stroller too. But they were happier to get in and out of the stroller at their leisure with all the walking. There were several highlights for the kids - all of which involved feeding the animals from your hand. One was the duck pond, The deer were pretty awesome, As was the petting zoo
