Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a mellow, unplanned weekend - the first in awhile! On Saturday it was rainy so we went down to the library to get some new books. I was ready to break up with "Round Like A Ball", as well as a few others that we've read 10 million times in the last 3 weeks. It just so happened that the library was hosting a train event, so we ended up hanging out for awhile.

S&Z colored pictures of trains drawn by a local artist.

They also spent some time playing in a "train" that was fashioned out of appliance boxes.

It was a really fun community event!

Today we decided to check out Kids' Fun Stop, an indoor playspace not too far from here. I purchased a Living Social deal awhile back for half-price drop-in visits, so we need to use them up before spring is here and we don't want to be inside anymore!

The place was swamped shortly after we got there. After 90 minutes everyone was overstimulated and ready to head home for some lunch! It was Dr. Suess' birthday last week, so we enjoyed some green eggs to celebrate :-)

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! Today I checked on the rooftop vegetable patio garden - it's doing great! Today we went school supply shopping so that I can enjoy the last month of summer without worrying abou...
