Today

I scheduled an appointment for a pedicure ~ 2 months ago, knowing how good it would feel to treat myself to one in the middle of the winter. Since I was going to be down at the salon I suggested to Derek that he and the kids meet me after the appointment and we could head over to the library. We talked about going to the library all morning.

Zoe was very sad when we packed up the library books that needed to be returned. The library books usually sit on the middle shelf of the bookcase in their room.

She was also really sad when I told her I was going to the salon and she realized that I was going alone. Apparently she wanted to get her haircut again! I explained that I was getting my toes painted and that we will be getting our haircut again in March.

The fam met me at the salon and they got to see the tail end of the pedicure. Zoe talked about "momma toes painted" for the rest of the day :-)

We have been going to the library every 2-3 weeks since November and they LOVE it. We say goodbye to each book as we put them in the return slot, and then we pick out 10-15 new books.

The kids are much better behaved now than the first time we went to the library. When we got home today everybody read new books while I put lunch together.

Auntie Kristin, we love the Child Scientist t-shirts!!!
It was a great morning spent out and about in our neighborhood!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
