My friend, Michelle, does research with babies at Children's Hospital. She also happens to be expecting boy-girl twins! She & her husband, Matt, came over for brunch a few weeks ago to talk about twin stuff. Silas & Zoe had a blast playing with them.
Michelle is in the process of upgrading the equipment she uses to record autonomic activity in babies (i.e., heart rate, respirations, etc.), so she asked if she could come over to test it out on Silas & Zoe. Being a researcher myself, I am always keen on helping out in this regard. Some of you may recall that Zoe participated in a study during her time in the NICU. They have also come into lab a few times, once back in June to run through one of our new eye tracking studies,
And then in July they got netted for the first time!
They are also featured on our lab website sporting their "Neuroscientist in Training" onesies.
Michelle will ultimately be testing 6-month-olds, so we figured S&Z at 11 months of age would give her a run for her money with the psychophys stuff. They were getting close to naptime when she was ready to start, so I wasn't sure how they would react to things. Silas got wired up first. His favorite part was chewing on the electrode wires!
Of course Zoe was right there by Silas' side checking everything out.
All the data were collected by a laptop computer, so of course they they loved that too (they always think we're going to skype when they see a computer!).
After Michelle got a few minutes of data collected, Silas got unhooked from everything.
And then it was Zoe's turn!
Yummm, this electrode box tastes good!
And of course Silas had to help when it was Zoe's turn.
It was another fun research day! We were happy to be able to help out!
