Busy busy busy

Our house is abuzz with development these days! The babies turn 10 months a week from today.

Silas figured out hands and knees crawling on Monday. He has been moving around like a worm up until now, but he finally figured out the alternating motion of real crawling. Here's a video showing them coming after my new phone.

Silas started babbling consonants two days ago and Zoe started today. Moving from vowels to consonants is a big step in terms of language development. It really changes each baby's personality! You can hear a little bit of this babbling from each of them in this longer video. I can't wait for them to "talk" to all the grandparents on skype this weekend!

Finally, you can see how they react to and explore a brand new toy in this video.

The new play spaces we have recently carved out are so great, and we find ourselves having to childproof more and more everyday. They discover things we never thought of! It feels a little like a romper room around here much of the time, and they definitely keep us on our toes! Here's a few shots of them following bedtime bottles tonight :)

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! Today I checked on the rooftop vegetable patio garden - it's doing great! Today we went school supply shopping so that I can enjoy the last month of summer without worrying abou...

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.
