Figuring It Out

We have made HUGE progress in figuring out the two baby problem in a mere six days.

-We have cooked dinner 2 of the last 3 nights.
-We are each now getting 3-5 hours of sleep at a time.
-Derek has run several errands and I've managed to hold down the fort.
-We've gotten all of us out of the house multiple times since Thursday a) in a timely manner, b) in between feedings and during naptime, and c) without Derek and I killing each other.

This has included two trips to the pediatrician for Zoe to have her weight checked, one trip to Babies 'R Us, and one grocery shopping trip. We are quite the spectacle with the snap-n-go double stroller, but we keep their carseats covered with "bundle me's" in order to keep random strangers from trying to touch them and from gawking too much.

Kristin was visiting from Wisconsin this week, so we took them out for a walk down to the Village on Saturday afternoon when it was a lovely 70+ degrees outside. We even had lunch at a sit down restaurant! Silas made his presence known several times during lunch, but we made due and were able to finish our meals without rushing home too fast :)

Silas and Zoe have managed to sync up their schedules pretty much on their own. Our days now have a predictable routine of 3-4 hours between feedings. Meal time is followed by diaper changes, a little awake time, then back to sleep.

Our friends recently lent us two swings, and these have been a huge help in solving the two baby equation.

Derek goes back to work on Thursday night, so we have been focusing lots of energy on figuring out how one adult can care for two babies. Each of us has managed to successfully complete 1-2 rounds of the aforementioned routine solo (!!), while the other person gets some sleep. This has been good practice for when I have overnights by myself, and for when Derek will have them after work while I get a little sleep.

Amidst all of the madness and sleep deprivation, we are having a great time getting to know each of them. It is hilarious to watch their little personalities emerge. It's amazing how consistent they are with my impressions of each of them during my pregnancy. Zoe is going to give us a run for our money and has a lot of opinions about things (she was the mover and shaker in my belly), while Silas definitely makes his voice heard but seems to go with the flow much of the time. It has definitely been an adventure so far and we are having a blast!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
