365: Day 242- Labor Day Clam Boil

Many families in New England celebrate the (psychological) end of summer with a clam boil, and both sides of Derek's family partake in this tradition. Grandpa D. wanted to host all of his siblings this year, so Denny, Derek and Doug all pitched in to make it happen. They worked all day long to put together this amazing spread!

Out of 12 siblings, all 6 who are still living attended! They range in age from 78-93 years. Grandpa D. was soooo happy.

Holley D. took a bunch of great pictures so I'm hoping to get a few and post them soon (note, they have been added here). Kaylan, Silas & Zoe had fun running around and playing. Here they are giving their Great-Grandma a hug before she went back to the nursing home.

When the fun was done, everybody pitched in to clean up.

In other news, the kids got back-to-school haircuts. Miranda was booked, so for the first time we had simultaneous appointments with two other stylists. Their new lunch boxes arrived yesterday as well, so we are officially ready for school to start on 9/9!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! Today I checked on the rooftop vegetable patio garden - it's doing great! Today we went school supply shopping so that I can enjoy the last month of summer without worrying abou...
