365: Day 259

9/16/14: Our big kid getting herself ready for school!

365: Day 253

9/10/14: We have started a new reinforcement system that has been working pretty well on most days. Here Silas is showing off his "awesome" status, while Zoe sat in a 4-minute timeout. Zoe drew an amazing picture of a shark at school on Wednesday. When I asked her where she got the idea she told me all about their trip to the school library that day. We heart school!!!

365: Day 252

9/9/14: So glad that Derek got a picture of the kids wearing their uniforms on the 2nd day of school!

365: Day 251- First Day of K1 Kindergarten!

9/8/14: Monday was Zoe & Silas' first day of K1 kindergarten! We have been preparing and talking about what to expect for weeks, so they were excited and ready to go when the big day finally came. I must have taken nearly 100 pictures before we even left the house! They were good sports and humored me for most of the shots :) Derek and I dropped them off at school together. Parents were able to go into the classroom for the first 30 minutes. It was nice to see them settle in so easily! Julia and I did pick-up together and then we took them out for dinner so that we could hear all about their first day. It's a huge milestone and so far they are doing great!

365: Day 249

9/6/14: Back-to-school haircuts, and a play date with a new friend from their K1 class!

365: Day 242

8/30/14: We've been letting Lucy in every few days in hopes of scaring the mouse away. The kids love it! After Derek went to work it was back-to-school shopping, day 2. Who knew it would be so hard to find uniforms in their size?! Apparently we are not the only family to procrastinate this god awful task.

365: Day 241

8/29/14: We were tortured with back-to-school shopping on Friday afternoon. The kids took a much-needed jumping break between Stride Rite and Old Navy...

365: Day 237

8/25/14: As I was leaving for work this morning the kids were getting ready to go "camping" in their bedroom closet. In preparation for starting K1 on 9/8, Derek took them over to the new school to ride bikes and play on the playground! Very excited (and love this picture of them!).

365: Day 224- Countdown to Kindergarten

8/12/14: The tooth fairy came on Monday night! What a milestone for all of us! The kids start 'K1' in September, which is full day pre-K at the local elementary school. In preparation, Derek took them to a Countdown to Kindergarten event at the public library after gymnastics class. They are beyond ready to start school!

365: Day 120- Welcome Visit at School

4/30/14: Wednesday morning was the Welcome Visit at Zoe & Silas' new school! Their classroom was packed for the visit - lots of new families starting next year, current parents who helped out with the visit, the teacher, principal, and paraprofessional - even the school nurse was there!  We are so excited for them to start the next educational chapter of their lives, so I was very surprised to find myself tearing up as the principal gave opening remarks... With only one class per grade, the school is very small. There are less than 150 total students, so all the teachers get to know every student. There is also a strong autism integration component which I'm pretty psyched about. Surprisingly, Zoe was anxious and shy during the visit; Silas was unphased. We'll do lots of verbal prep over the summer and make plenty of visits to the playground. It sounded like some of the families might get together for playdates in advance of school starti...
