The Zoe and Silas Show

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. 8/31/14: We had a fun day with friends today! First we had a lovely lunch date with Teresa, Tim, Josie & Theo. They kids were so happy to play and eat together! In the afternoon we had an impromptu play date with our landlord Mike's kids, Michael and Shawn. Lucy even got in on some of the action! In other news, one of the sunflowers that S&Z planted in June started blooming today! They are HUGE! It's amazing that we grew these from 2 single seeds!

8/8/14: Julia brought the kids to see "the seeds" they planted at one of the library storytimes earlier this summer. Holy camoly!

You may have inferred from the tardiness of my posts the last few weeks that I am BEYOND BUSY (at work) right now. I have realized that I may not being able to finish the photo-a-day project this year (sniff sniff). I'll try to keep posting at least once a week, but the photo project may be coming to an end mid-year... ***** 6/2/14: Many mornings starting with craft projects and this particular Monday morning was no different. Silas took apart a foam bead necklace they made at school and used it to add some dimensionality to a collaborative project. S&Z are really into the flowers we recently planted and they helped me water when I got home from work!

5/24/14: Derek was off work this weekend so we seized the opportunity to get some flowers purchased and planted. It was a beautiful afternoon and Home Depot was a mad house! We got straight to work when we got home. We planted 4 full sun containers for the front step, including petunias, alyssum, and salvia. And 4 hanging baskets for the shady back deck. These included white and red begonias, and vinca vine. The kids were VERY good helpers, especially when it came to watering!

5/8/13: Derek and the kids worked on cleaning up the yard yesterday morning. Strangely, he found tulips from last year blooming in the compost of all places. He gave them to the kids and they "planted" them in their buckets along with some dandelions. It's definitely that time of year!

... and I have been itching to do some gardening.  Click here to see a cute post from two years ago when I was barely pregnant. That was our second year planting a vegetable garden. For obvious reasons , we had our hands a little too full last year to do any gardening. Instead, we got our fill of seasonal and delicious food from our CSA and the weekly farmer's market in Roslindale Square. This year we are hoping to ease back into things by spending lots of time in the backyard and on the back deck . Some hanging baskets would really spruce things up on the deck so we went out to Lowe's Garden Center first thing this morning. Unfortunately, they didn't have the coconut basket liners that we need, but we did have fun looking at the annuals and thinking about what to plant. We're dealing with shade plants so our only real options are begonias and impatiens, but it's fun to look around anyway :) Hopefully I'll have some pictures of what we put together in the...
