365: Day 270- Amherst

9/28/13: Derek worked a double on Saturday, so the kids and I headed to Amherst, MA to visit my friends Lisa and Carlos and their new baby, Matilde (almost 8 weeks old). Matilde slept much of the afternoon, but when she was awake S&Z were SO curious about her!


It was a gorgeous fall day so we ate lunch outside and then stopped at the local Apple Festival. The kids jumped in a bouncy house,


And played in some hay.


We also bought tie-dyed t-shirts and cider doughnuts. I was so happy to be able to meet Matilde and catch up with a dear friend! The kids were so good on the 2-hour drive each way - we will definitely be going back to visit again soon!

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! Today I checked on the rooftop vegetable patio garden - it's doing great! Today we went school supply shopping so that I can enjoy the last month of summer without worrying abou...
