Nelson Lab Holiday Party, 2011 Edition

This is the 3rd year that I've taken Silas and Zoe to the Nelson Lab holiday party at Chuck's house (see pictures from 2010 here and 2009 here). As usual, we were some of the first guests to arrive. Chuck & Gwen had an array of crackers on the coffee table, so naturally they made a direct bee line.

There was a delicious smoked bluefish spread, and that's basically all they ate for dinner.

Once the other kids arrived we got them settled in the sunroom with some toys. They had a lot of fun, although Zoe looks none too pleased in this circle of boys...

Auden (fireman coat), 35 months

In addition to the "big kids", there were a few little ones as well, including another set of twins!

Liam & Madeleine just turned 1 last weekend!

Thatcher is Ollie's baby brother, almost 6 months

Zoe made the rounds and befriended all the ladies.

Finally, we parked all of the kids in front of an episode of Curious George while the adults did the lab yankee swap.

It was a great night, and we even got a picture of both kids with Chuck!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Outside

As with most milestones, S&Z have been taking their sweet time when it comes to language development. I've tried to relax about it because one (of the many) things they have taught me over the last year is that they will eventually meet all the milestones and they will do it on their own schedule. Not when their friends do it, not on each other's schedule, and definitely not when the books say it will happen. I have exerted a lot of mental energy worrying about these things, and I've finally decided that it's really not necessary. As expected, their receptive language has skyrocketed over the last several months. I can now ask them to do things that involve getting something from another room, and most of the time (if they are so inclined) they will carry out the request. They are learning the names of, and pointing to, various body parts ('belly' is the current favorite for both of them). They are producing more animal sounds - they have a specific high-...

The Best of Project 366

2012 is coming to a close and I have officially completed Project 366 ! I managed to take and post and keep track of 365 photos out of 366 total days this year. I only missed one day and it was for a pretty good cause . Believe me, these pictures don't take themselves. I shot just under 7000 pictures this year. Once I got an iPhone in March all of the pictures were taken with my phone (~ 5500 pictures!). The camera on the iPhone is really good, I always have it with me, and I like playing around with the filters and other editing tools available in photography apps like Instagram, Camera+, Diptic, and Gridditor. Since I have put so much time, love and energy into Project 366 I thought I should select a few "Best Of's". I had a great time putting this together, and I hope you enjoy these highlights as well!
