Derek decided to grow a beard recently. I think it looks great, and the kids love touching his face! Here he is with Miss Z this morning before we left to see the pediatrician.

After having a meltdown at the end of the pedi visit and crashing for a few minutes in the car on the way home, they managed to pull it together once we got home. Julia had cooked up some ground beef last night with tomatoes and olives, and also made mashed potatoes for us. It was the second night in a row that she made dinner for us! I ended up putting together a dominican-inspired shepherd's pie with everything she made. S&Z chowed for lunch!

While I was getting stuff from lunch cleaned up, I noticed Zoe paying a lot of attention to the little blue chairs that go with their new table. She recently figured out how to get up on the chair, even though it's a little too tall for her.

I went into their nursery before putting them down for a nap. Without me noticing, Zoe had moved both chairs into their room and put them in front of the window where the stepstools are set up!

I found it odd and so funny, so I mentioned it to Derek later on. He said he had put the chairs there yesterday when they were playing before their nap. Zoe must have remembered and done it again today!

As the day progressed, I could tell Silas was feeling worse and worse. Not bad enough to prevent him from causing a little trouble with his sister, though! We had a diaper party before bed :)

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...
