We Heart Oliver

Silas & Zoe are very lucky to have friends already and they are not even a year old yet! Their best little friend is definitely Oliver Farley. Vanessa, Ollie's mom, is a co-worker and very close friend of mine. Vanessa worked in the lab with me at the University of MN, and we made the big move to Boston together 5 years ago. Vanessa got pregnant about 6 weeks before I did, and we were so lucky to be able to share our pregnancies together.

Oliver was born on September 19th, just 2-1/2 weeks before Silas & Zoe were born. In addition to working together, we are so lucky that our family's live close together too! Vanessa, Greg & Ollie live in West Roxbury, just over 1 mile from our house. We had lots of fun playdates during our maternity leaves,

As the babies have gotten older and started moving around, it's a blast getting them all together!

We have had some very fun outings with Oliver this summer! There was lab day on the Cape,

A trip to the zoo,

And a very fun baby shower at Nadine's house!

We do lots of impromptu playdates too!

There is also a park right in between our houses, so we meet there all the time.

It has been wonderful to have such a good friend in Vanessa, someone to commiserate with and try to figure out this Mommyhood stuff together. Silas, Zoe & Oliver are sure to be lifelong friends... We love you guys!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
