Back to the Science Museum

After a family trip to the Science Museum was foiled by sickness back in November, we finally reserved library passes for this weekend. Derek has really fond memories of going there as a kid, so I think he was just as excited to go as S&Z were! Zoe & I had so much fun when we visited a few months ago that I couldn't wait to go back with both kids.

I wasn't particularly interested in science classes growing up, but I have ended up with a research career in neuroscience. I adore watching S&Z explore the exhibits at the museum and seeing what kinds of things interest them the most. I am brainstorming more ways to expose them to science stuff as they get older.

Sound and frequency

The biggest accomplishment of this visit was that Derek got Zoe to sit through the entire Lightning Show with him. She is really sensitive to loud noises, she scares pretty easily and she hates storms. He was so supportive and encouraging and found a spot for them to watch from behind sound dampening glass. Silas wasn't too interested so he & I explored a computer exhibit during the show. When I asked Zoe before bed what her favorite part of the museum was, she shouted "THE LIGHTNING SHOW!" (although she was sure to note that she didn't like the loud noise).

I will definitely be reserving library passes again soon!
