BBQ and Baby Shower

Because so many people were traveling to attend Kelly & Scott's shower, Kelly's sister organized a BBQ for Saturday night. Scott knew that I was coming for the shower, but Kelly had no idea. She was SO SURPRISED when I walked in!!! It was awesome.

There were lots of other friends and family who traveled to help Kelly and Scott celebrate, including my close friend Lisa who lives in western MA.

There were tons of people to share in all the good cheer!

The house where all the festivities were taking place belongs to Kelly's sister's in-laws. The space was absolutely beautiful (~8 bedrooms) and it was right on the lake. There were also lots of other kids, and in addition to S&Z three of them were < 4 years.

Zoe and Silas normally go to bed around 7:30 so I wasn't sure how long they would make it at a BBQ that started at 6:30. I could see them starting to go downhill around 7:15, but I managed to push them until well after 8:30. Everyone was so helpful and understanding about the little meltdowns, and Kelly's nephews were so good about sharing their toys.

Kelly's older nephew, Matthew, was particularly tolerant and helpful with Silas.

By the time we got back to the hotel it was after 9pm! Big day of traveling and a fun night out for all of us!

On Sunday the baby shower started at 1pm. Since S&Z had such a late night on Saturday, I decided to let them nap in the hotel room which put us arriving back for the festivities mid-afternoon. Gift opening was well underway and I was glad I didn't miss out on the best part!

Kelly and Scott and Baby Girl have so much love in their lives. I am so glad that we could help them celebrate!!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
