Baptism Day

Silas and Zoe were baptized along with their cousin, Kaylan, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mansfield, MA on April 24th. Since I have not yet found a neighborhood church in our area, we decided to have the babies' baptized at the church that Derek grew up in. Derek's mom coordinated to have the priest that baptized Derek, Father Pat, come back to St. Mary's to baptize Silas, Zoe & Kaylan in a private ceremony.

I was so fortunate to have family christening gowns passed down to me from my mother for Zoe and Silas to wear. Zoe wore the gown I was baptized in and Silas wore one that I thought belonged to my grandfather (I actually found out later that it was Stephanie's gown!). Here they are getting dressed at the church.

Silas and Zoe's godparents are Derek's brother, Doug, and my sister, Stephanie. Doug is local and is the father of Kaylan who was also being baptized, so he was at the service. Stephanie (aka, the Buddha Mother) was unable to attend, so I was so happy to have Auntie Rachel here to stand up in her place. I definitely missed my family a ton all day!

Rachel and Keith were so awesome in giving us a hand with everything, as always! We sure are going to miss them when they move to Nashville...

For the first part of the service, the parents and godparents sat in the front pew.

Derek's parents have sang with Father Pat in church for years and he is very musical, so we were so happy when we pulled out his guitar to sing at the beginning of the service!

Silas and Zoe were spellbound...

Next, everyone gathered around the baptismal font for the actual christening.

After Kaylan, Silas was the next to get dunked.

Zoe came last...

They did so great for the whole service!

They were also very interested in the candles.

We didn't get any group pictures amidst all the madness, but here is our beautiful niece Kaylan following the service.

We did manage to get one (not-so-great) family picture though!

Derek's parents, Joanne and Denny, hosted a lovely reception following the service in nearby Foxborough, MA.

Derek's Aunt Doreen made an awesome cake, and lots of friends and family contributed food for a delicious spread.

Unfortunately Silas & Zoe were beyond overtired for the reception.

Ultimately they fell asleep and we parked them in their carseats under the table.

It was a beautiful and memorable day for our family!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! Today I checked on the rooftop vegetable patio garden - it's doing great! Today we went school supply shopping so that I can enjoy the last month of summer without worrying abou...

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.
