Dutra Family Baby Shower

Derek's mom, Joanne, and close family friend, Audrey Vieira, threw us a wonderful baby shower last weekend. Derek drove me down to Audrey's house in Swansea, where all of the guys were meeting up in order to head out for lunch. Everyone hung out for awhile in Audrey & Mike's beautiful backyard munching on yummy appetizers, and then the guys loaded into the M.V. to head to New Bedford for Portuguese food.

We had a wonderful spread of fabulous food, thanks to the hard work of Joanne and Audrey, as well as Aunt Doreen and others who cooked for the celebration. We had a very special cake that was decorated with animals, going along with the theme of the nursery. Joanne and Audrey also made the cutest shower favors -- pretzels dipped in white chocolate!

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon sitting outside, sharing good food and good company.

Everyone was so generous with giving us gifts for the babies, and Kaylan was a wonderful helper :) We got lots of things we still needed, like diapers, a diaper pail, clothes, a bassinet, a car seat, and many other gifts!!

I got to meet baby Emily Proctor for the first time (she was born in June), and she is adorable!

Kaylan was also her usual cute self and provided entertainment all afternoon!

Unfortunately Joanne ended up in the hospital three days later with breathing problems resulting from pneumonia. Please send her your thoughts and prayers for fast healing...

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
