365: Day 347- A Visit to Santa!

12/14/13: Last Saturday was the only time we had to visit Santa. We headed back to Bass Pro Shops knowing it would be pretty busy on a Saturday night just two weeks before Christmas (click here to read about our Santa adventures last year). Sure enough, we walked in at 5:25 and the woman at the door said, "here to see Santa? here's a 'Santa Pass' for 7:30". Derek and I just looked at each other and thought "here we go again". We had all been up late the night before and there was no way in hell we were hanging around Bass Pro Shops for 2 hours. I looked at the kids and started to explain how we weren't going to see Santa after all. The Santa Pass lady overheard me and said, "oh, I forgot! i have some 5:30 passes right here". Maybe she really did forget, but the whole situation struck me as a scam to get people to shop before seeing Santa. When she realized we were going to walk out the door she pulled out a pass to get us in the store. We walked downstairs where the families with 6:00 and 6:30 passes were already lined up and we got escorted to the front of the line.

When Santa asked Zoe & Silas what they want for Christmas, Zoe promptly replied "Silas wants a remote controlled airplane and I want a remote controller helicopter". Santa gave me a very funny look and said, "We'll see what Santa can do" (little do they know that Julia actually got them remote controlled airplanes for Christmas!).

We stopped to look at the big fish before we headed out into the snow to go to Bertucci's for pizza.

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
