365: Day 110- Numb


4/20/13: This is how I found them this morning, sitting on Silas' bed reading books to each other.


They played with bubbles on the back deck again today.



I am totally emotionally exhausted. I don't really want to talk to anyone outside of Derek and the kids. I am numb. I fell asleep last night with Silas' favorite stuffed animal, 'nudie bird', after he left it in our bed when we read books. I laid down while the kids napped today and actually fell asleep for an hour, again clutching onto nudie bird.


Cooking is how I deal with stress. On Monday after the bombings I made S&Z a feast of indian-spiced basmati rice and curried chickpeas and cauliflower. I cooked again tonight, this time for healing. We had a comfort meal of homemade Ramen Noodle Soup. Unfortunately Derek is working the entire weekend so it was just me and the kids.


I'm still processing the events of this week. I suspect I will be for awhile...

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! Today I checked on the rooftop vegetable patio garden - it's doing great! Today we went school supply shopping so that I can enjoy the last month of summer without worrying abou...

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.
