It's starting to look a lot like Christmas...

We didn't get our Christmas decorations up Thanksgiving weekend, so decorating was my top priority for this last weekend. Auntie Kristin was in town for a conference last week so we were very excited to see her this weekend. I figured Kristin would get a kick out of decorating with the kids, so we waited to trim the tree until she came over on Saturday afternoon.

Kristin got to experience how impossible it is to take cute pictures of little kids. Of course S&Z were being total goof balls, so this is the best one she was able to get. Pretty darn cute if you ask me!

And here's the finished product!

After dinner we rolled out dough for cookies.

So fun and the kids loved it! I can't wait to cut out and decorate sugar cookies once my parents arrive for Christmas.

Getting the decorations up officially kicks off the holiday season for me, and there is always so much to do this time of year. The Christmas sweat shop has officially opened and this elf is trying not to get too cranky with the long list of projects I'm working on every night after the kids are in bed and dinner is made...

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

The Best of Project 366

2012 is coming to a close and I have officially completed Project 366 ! I managed to take and post and keep track of 365 photos out of 366 total days this year. I only missed one day and it was for a pretty good cause . Believe me, these pictures don't take themselves. I shot just under 7000 pictures this year. Once I got an iPhone in March all of the pictures were taken with my phone (~ 5500 pictures!). The camera on the iPhone is really good, I always have it with me, and I like playing around with the filters and other editing tools available in photography apps like Instagram, Camera+, Diptic, and Gridditor. Since I have put so much time, love and energy into Project 366 I thought I should select a few "Best Of's". I had a great time putting this together, and I hope you enjoy these highlights as well!
