Holiday Concert

S&Z's preschool held a combined holiday concert for the 3-year-old morning and afternoon classes. I have been so excited about the concert, and was very thankful when both kids proved to be healthy enough to be able to attend. We invited Derek's parents to come up to Boston for the concert on Thursday morning.

In total there were about 40 3-year-olds performing! I think it took longer to line them up than it did to perform the six song program :)

S&Z were positioned in the middle of all the kids, and they looked like deer in headlights for most of the songs. The head preschool teacher isn't particularly musically inclined, so the background music came from an iPod which was positioned at the opposite end of the room from where S&Z stood. Some kids sang along and some kids cried. S&Z didn't sing any of the songs, but they looked around curiously throughout the program.

The kids were given LED votive candles for "This Little Light of Mine".

There was a little reception after the concert, and S&Z mostly just played with the candles which they got to take home.

My parents arrived today and I am sooooo looking forward to having 10 glorious days off from work!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

The Best of Project 366

2012 is coming to a close and I have officially completed Project 366 ! I managed to take and post and keep track of 365 photos out of 366 total days this year. I only missed one day and it was for a pretty good cause . Believe me, these pictures don't take themselves. I shot just under 7000 pictures this year. Once I got an iPhone in March all of the pictures were taken with my phone (~ 5500 pictures!). The camera on the iPhone is really good, I always have it with me, and I like playing around with the filters and other editing tools available in photography apps like Instagram, Camera+, Diptic, and Gridditor. Since I have put so much time, love and energy into Project 366 I thought I should select a few "Best Of's". I had a great time putting this together, and I hope you enjoy these highlights as well!
