More Cook!

Silas is well on his way to competing as the youngest Top Chef champion. Tonight he was "cooking" with tangerines,



He kept saying "more oranges", until they had emptied the entire fruit bowl.


Zoe is a great sous chef!


I finally had to move the knife block off the counter, because this kid is bound and determined to cook the way we do. Tonight he handed me a plastic hammer and screwdriver to "open" a tangerine for him.


I got them some more "food" to play with, and this provided lots of fun (and fighting!) over the weekend.


Following another furniture re-configuration, they have great space to play in the kitchen!


Finally, we got out the play-doh cooking set last night.


"More cook!" is a phrase we hear a lot of these days...

Summer Nights

As we hit the end of July we are relishing the relaxed summer nights around here. Walks to the corner store after work- Kitten snoozes in the window- Playing outside after dinner- And after dinner bike rides in the park aplenty. The best part is when they ride down the "big hill" out of the woods and we make the loop home. These are the days.

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! Today I checked on the rooftop vegetable patio garden - it's doing great! Today we went school supply shopping so that I can enjoy the last month of summer without worrying abou...
