On the last Saturday of every month the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston hosts a free "play date" for families. I've had this event on my radar for quite some time, and we decided to go on Saturday before the storm hit.
Going to museums is not something we get to do much of these days. S&Z have a 60-90 minute attention span for pretty much all activities at this age, so it seems pointless to spend a lot of $$ on things that we can't spend more than an hour attending. This was the perfect way to check out some amazing exhibits at the ICA, as well as enjoy the museum's prime location on the Boston Waterfront.
We were able to enjoy 2 of the 4 exhibits currently showing at the ICA. The first was "The Record: Contemporary ART and VINYL". It was amazing, in particular since Derek is a musician! There were plenty of multimedia components, which kept this exhibit more interesting for Zoe and Silas.
The best part was a mediatechque room with record players, headphones, and stacks of vinyl. We hung out there for quite awhile!

Silas ended up being more into the music, so Zoe and I explored the awesome architecture and walls full of windows while the boys jammed.
The other exhibit that was really amazing were photographs by Catherine Opie, "Empty and Full". The concept was so interesting (click on the link or double click on the photo below to read more)...
S&Z needed to be in strollers during the time we walked through the galleries, but they were so curious and interested in everything - they did GREAT! After an hour we knew we were pushing our luck and headed outside to run off some steam before heading home.
What an awesome morning doing something that for once didn't feel like it was all about the kids!
