The Zoe and Silas Show

Wendy, Sydney & Ivy have become very close friends of ours over the last year. Here is a picture of both sets of twins taken at our second playdate on 5/16/10 - Sydney & Ivy had just turned 8 months old. Silas was such a beast compared to all the girls! We lined them up again yesterday and here's what we got, Here are our favorite little ladies last year, What a difference a year makes!!!

Zoe and Silas have recently started giving each other kisses when you ask them to. It's about the cutest thing I've ever seen. They were playing with used up dryer sheets last night when I was folding clothes and I shot this video... Zoe is really sweet with the kisses in general. She loves giving Derek & I kisses but it has to be when she's in the right mood. She also kisses each and every page when we read the book " Counting Kisses ". Now if I could just figure out how to bottle up these adorable kid moments :)

One of the best parts about our Friday morning playgroup is that the kids get to do messy art projects [outside of our house!] :) Today S&Z painted for the first time, They finally seem to be getting over their dislike of dirty hands too. Zoe continues to LOVE circle time and both kids like to sing along and do the actions that go along with the songs. You can see all of the pictures I took this morning on Picasa by clicking the link below. Friday Playgroup On a related EI note, both kids have a bunch of new words, so we are thrilled! Cheese, hot, up, shoes, and night-night are a few new ones in the last week or two; uh-oh is still a favorite of both kids. Zoe tends to master a word first and then Silas picks it up. In this way, their vocabularies pretty much mirror each other! It's so fun to hear them start talking and it makes this developmental stage really exciting! Now if the tantrums would just go away we'd be all set :)

... and I have been itching to do some gardening.  Click here to see a cute post from two years ago when I was barely pregnant. That was our second year planting a vegetable garden. For obvious reasons , we had our hands a little too full last year to do any gardening. Instead, we got our fill of seasonal and delicious food from our CSA and the weekly farmer's market in Roslindale Square. This year we are hoping to ease back into things by spending lots of time in the backyard and on the back deck . Some hanging baskets would really spruce things up on the deck so we went out to Lowe's Garden Center first thing this morning. Unfortunately, they didn't have the coconut basket liners that we need, but we did have fun looking at the annuals and thinking about what to plant. We're dealing with shade plants so our only real options are begonias and impatiens, but it's fun to look around anyway :) Hopefully I'll have some pictures of what we put together in the...

My girlfriends are as important to me as my family. Unfortunately, like my family, many of my best friends live far away. I have worked really hard over the last 2 years to create a community of new friends that have been such an amazing source of laughter, support, advice and perspective as I have navigated the path of mommyhood. - Andee & her daughter Maya came in for a few studies when Maya was a baby, and Andee & I formed a friendship at the beginning of my pregnancy. We both are busy with careers and at times doing lots of single parenting, but we always find time to get together every month. -Iris & my friend Kristin went to Smith together, and Iris and I cultivated a friendship after Kristin moved to Wisconsin. The first time Iris came over to see us, Silas & Zoe were ~ 2 months old and Iris had just found out that she was pregnant. Spring in Boston has been pretty cool and a little wet, but that hasn't stopped us from getting outside every chance we get! As you may have seen in previous posts, we've been enjoying a lot of time at the various playgrounds in our neighborhood. We have a "tot lot" 15 minutes in one direction, a beautiful big kid playground 15 minutes in another direction, and a park with lots of green open spaces that we frequented last summer with Vanessa & Oliver about 10 minutes away. When the weather cooperates, Derek takes S&Z to one of these outdoor spots in the morning and Julia also takes them out in the afternoon. If it's rainy or cool, Derek, Silas & Zoe go to "open toddler gym" at the Roslindale Community Center, or they stay close to home and play on the back deck or in the backyard.
