365: Day 152- Salad Season!

6/2/13: Let the summer of salads begin! Tonight's inaugural salad featured panisse lettuce, haruki turnips and radishes from the Farmer's Market, along with cucumbers, carrots, and red pepper. I cheated with Trader Joe's Greek Feta dressing, but I'm planning on making this dressing very soon.

Considering how much S&Z love cole slaw (and the fact that we've gotten them to eat wheat berry salad twice in the last 2 months), I was really hoping they would get on board with my salad plan this summer. But, you really never know with two kids and two very different personalities. They both dove right in, though, and of course Silas finished his first and said "can I have more salad?". The possibilities will be endless if they are willing participants, and we have an awesome local Farmer's Market that will be able to supply my summer habit: asian slaw, indonesian chicken salad, lemony quinoa salad are just a few sitting in my pepperplate queue.

Both kids woke up from their naps today in great moods, so we headed to Target to get Silas some swim trunks that will actually stay up on his skinny little hips.

It was Zoe's turn to pick the TV show after bath tonight, and she chose "Sid the Science Kid". I laid on the bed next to them relaxing in the AC, and I just couldn't resist a picture of their default mode.

Night night!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
