Birthday Party!

Last fall we went to two 1-year-old birthday parties, both of which were held outside. Today we went to our first indoor, big kid birthday party. Our friend Maya turned 3 and her parents, Clark & Andee, held a party at their house in JP.

Andee has become a very good friend of mine over the last two years. I was so happy to be able to celebrate Maya's birthday with them!

Maya has an amazing trampoline! She was very happy to show S&Z how it worked!

As soon as Zoe saw the tramp she wanted a turn. Maya was so good about sharing her toys with all the other kids at the party!

Here's a quick video of Zoe as she was figuring out how it worked.

Silas only tried it once, whereas Zoe kept returning to it throughout the party.

There was a big craft table set up. S&Z had their first experiences with markers AND play-doh today!

They loved watching and playing with all the kids,

And Maya organized some circle time for everyone,

As usual, Silas showed his charms to all the other adults. He ended up in the arms of this nice man who picked him up when Silas held his arms out to him :) Silas is watching his sister jump on the trampoline (again!) in this picture.

We had such a fun morning at the party. They ate fruit and snacks and ice cream and cake for lunch, and took a 2-1/2 hour long nap when we got home. That's what birthday parties are all about!

Happy Birthday, Maya!!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
