University of North Dakota

Since this was Derek's first trip to Grand Forks, one of things I wanted to do was show him around the University of North Dakota campus. Both of my parents are UND alum, and I graduated from there in 1997.


One of the attractions on campus is the Ralph Engelstad Arena.



Since UND will no longer have the Fighting Sioux as the mascot, I wanted to buy a few things at the Sioux Shop and look around the lobby of the hockey arena. It's pretty amazing!


I made such great connections during my time in the Psychology Department at UND, and the first-rate research experience I gained helped me get to where I am today. It was awesome to be able to finally show this part of my history to Derek! And of course, the UND bling for S&Z was a bonus too!

Today

Today I went to a yoga class for the first time in far too many years. It felt wonderful and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to go back! Today Derek gave Silas his traditional mid-summer haircut. Today the weather was perfect and we enjoyed bike rides (them) / a walk (me) in the park after lunch. Today Zoe chased the cats until they succumbed to her love and adoration. Today I put the garbage on the curb for weekly pickup and realized that we didn't have any! We recycle and compost far more than we throw away. I am grateful to be able to teach Zoe & Silas these habits. Empty trash barrel Countertop compost bin  Backyard compost bin that we bought at Town Hall Food compost, including the hair from Silas' haircut today! The context for this post is that S&Z started two weeks of daily swimming lessons in the outdoor town pool on Monday. The beginning of this week also happened to start with two of the coldest days of the summer!
